Thanks for your nice comment on my blog. I'm not sure why that background would flash and disappear, but I would suggest that you delete all of your background gadgets before you add another one. Sometimes people add a new HTML background gadget before deleting one they are currently using and then your blog either won't show any backgrounds or show your old one.
